beautiful cute little girl with math formulas and problemsOnline Course Spotlight: Purposeful Learning Through Multiple Intelligences™ — Accelerated

In this four-week course, you will identify and apply the multiple intelligences (MI) to meet the needs of today’s diverse classrooms. Based on Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligence™, you will demonstrate the power of teaching and learning through this unique instructional process. Gardner suggests that the best way to identify dominant intelligences for ourselves is to experience and use them.

Participants will explore other theories of intelligence, MI sub-capacities, and their own MI profiles during this course.

Below is a snapshot of what you will do during each of the four weeks:

  • Week 1: Experience an overview of multiple intelligences, the brain, and cultivating learning.
  • Week 2: Explore four sub-capacities: verbal-linguistic, logical-mathematical, visual-spatial, and musical-rhythmic.
  • Week 3: Explore for sub-capacities: bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalist.
  • Week 4: Examine emotional intelligence, how to leverage technology in the MI classroom, and creating classroom environments that challenge students to step out of their preferred sub-capacity into experiencing others.

About Howard Gardner

Multiple intelligences is an educational theory put forth by psychologist Howard Gardner, which suggests that an array of different kinds of “intelligence” exists in human beings. Gardner suggests that each individual manifests varying levels of these different intelligences, and thus each person has a unique “cognitive profile.” The theory was first laid out in Gardner’s 1983 book, Frames of Mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligences, and has been further refined in subsequent years.
